Calvados offshore wind farm

The Calvados offshore wind farm was awarded to EDF Renewables and its partners (EIH S.à r.l. owned by Enbridge Inc. and CPP Investments, and Skyborn Renewables) in April 2012, at the same time as two other French projects: Fécamp (Seine-Maritime) and Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique).

The Calvados offshore wind farm is the second offshore wind farm in Normandy, and one of the first four in France. It comprises 64 offshore wind turbines with a total output of around 450 megawatts.

Currently under construction, the turbines will be located more than 10 km off the Bessin coast, over a total area of 50 km² and covering less than 1% of the seafloor this area.

The wind farm’s projected output will cover the equivalent domestic electricity consumption of more than 630,000 people, or more than 90% of the population of the Calvados department.
