The development of a methodology for cumulative effect assessment is a regulatory requirement for industrial activities at sea. These activities are subjected to environmental impact studies which must include a chapter on potential cumulative effects with other existing or approved projects. The SIG ECUME aims to propose an operational methodology, applicable to its different member activities, which can be shared and applied in the various impact studies and will be recognized by the authorities.
This approach is being undertaken within the framework of a CIFRE (Convention industrielle de formation par la recherche) doctoral thesis, with the company Les Graves de l’Estuaire as employer and the University of Caen Normandy and the M2C laboratory as scientific host institutes.
The thesis runs from March 2024 to March 2027 and involves a bibliographical analysis of the various existing concepts and methods for cumulative effect assessment, followed by the creation of a methodology applicable to the industrial activities studied within the SIG ECUME.
