University of Rouen Normandy

With over 34,000 students and 38 research units, the University of Rouen Normandy (URN) plays a leading role in teaching and research in Normandy. We are involved in regional teaching and research clusters, and promote interregional research activities by developing nationally and internationally renowned scientific partnerships. We therefore partake in numerous international projects in partnership with over 40 countries.

As a multidisciplinary institution, URN is particularly devoted to making higher education accessible to all and fostering local economic and social development.

We have seven campuses in Normandy with a total of 12 faculties, institutes and schools.

Two research laboratories at the University of Rouen are involved in the activities of the SIG ECUME: the M2C laboratory (Continental and Coastal Morphodynamics, UMR CNRS 6143) and the IDEES laboratory.

IDEES-Rouen is a laboratory whose research focuses on two main themes:

  • Relations between society and the environment in the context of climate change, including within the “longer” timeframes of geoarchaeology;
  • Industrial and health risks.

IDEES Rouen also carries out research projects on the fields of spatial analysis and modelling.

The M2C laboratory’s research activities focus on characterising and modelling the dynamics of natural hydrodynamic and sedimentary processes along the land-sea continuum, from the headwaters of catchment basins to the coastal environment, using an interdisciplinary approach covering geosciences, oceanography, hydrology, mechanics, microbiology and the biology of organisms, and combining in situ measurements, experimental approaches, remote sensing and numerical modelling. The researchers at M2C Rouen involved in the SIG ECUME are experts of the English Channel system with a specialisation in sedimentology, sediment dynamics and morphodynamics of coastal environments.
